BRADLEY
LEIGHTON

Bradley Leighton brings a unique and powerful sound to flute. His
style of swing evolved from listening to the big, hi-octane bands
of Kenton, Herman and Ferguson in the 60's-70's. His funkiness derives
from years of listening to Tower of Power, Earth, Wind & Fire,
the Brecker Brothers and countless other soul/R&B acts. He brings
a fire and flair not usually heard nor expected from a flutist.
Bradley has performed across the US and Asia, as both sideman and
bandleader, for over 25 years. His most recent gigs included headlining
the Gainesville Jazz Festival and opening for Gerald Albright at the Greater Hartford Jazz Festival.
"His brand new album, the aptly titled ‘Soul Collective’, is replete with a deliciously soulful vibe and is testimony to Leighton’s growing stature within the genre that a galaxy of stars have come out to collaborate with him." - Denis Poole, Journalist and Editor of SmoothJazzTherapy.com. On Soul Collective, Bradley is joined by veterans Greg Adams, Tom Scott, Mic Gillette, Tom Braxton, Evan Marks and introduces a powerful new vocalist, Paula Prophet.
"Bradley Leighton finds the groove of the
alto flute and rides it all the way on the waves of sound coming
from the Hammond B-3. You can tell these guys like playing jazz!"
- Claudia Russell, KSDS Jazz 88.3 FM
Back to the Funk is Bradley Leighton's earlier
2006 release, and it is just as smooth in its style, sound, and
performances, as Just Doin' Our Thang, which was the follow up release
to the southern California based musician's 2003 debut, Groove Yard.
Leaning towards an urban and contemporary style, Bradley has the
credentials — but more notably the talent — to deliver
an enjoyable recording for fans of mellow music.
"Some of the key elements include Leighton's
use of an alto flute (with its deep and whispery tone), clever reworkings
of popular songs, and capable band members-featuring the Hammond
B3 organ as a nice backdrop to flesh out musical ideas. The combination
of the alto flute's resonance and the B3's signature sound make
for a soothing blend." - Mark Turner, All About Jazz
